Warning: The Facebook Terms do not allow automated access.

3.2.3. You may not access or collect data from our Products using automated means (without our prior permission) or attempt to access data you do not have permission to access.

The bookmarklet could be defined as automated collection. It only collects the minimum amount of data (first names; nothing else) that is necessary for the analysis. You are responsible for the collection yourself.

Do you want to know how many women and men participate in a Facebook discussion?

  1. Drag the bookmarklet and the bookmarklet to your bookmarks.
  2. Go to a single facebook post
  3. Press the Expand All bookmarklet to expand all comments
  4. Press the CommGendRatio bookmarklet to see the results

Alternative for 100+ comments

If there are many comments, the CommGendRatio bookmarklet may fail, because it transfers the names as URL parameters. URLs have a limited length. In that case, you should do the following after expanding all comments.

  1. Add the NamesToClipboard bookmarklet
  2. Press the NamesToClipboard bookmarklet to copy all names to your clipboard
  3. Paste the names in the text area below to get the gender ratio

To detect the gender, it uses the gender-detection package, which is basically a list of 40k names that are sorted into female, male and unisex.

Inspired by proporti.onl, which shows the gender ratio of Twitter accounts.
